Front cross practice

I wanted to practice a couple of things this afternoon. First I wanted to practice taking her to the table with a leash on. Do the count , release, run to the gate and treat with food. I did this several times when we first got to the field. We did nothing else with the table. Im going to a b-match on Thursday and that's what Im going to practice there so I wanted her to know what Im doing.
I also wanted to practice the front cross that Im having so much trouble with. What I found out was Im not cueing soon enough. Surprise huh? So I watch my video again and again in slow motion. I have to cue her just as she is landing on jump #6 if I want her to turn after #7. If I cued her just before jump #7, it was to late.

You know whats weird. I felt like we had a terrible practice. Its felt like she was running so slow. But after watching the video, she doesn't looks slow. Im glad I watch the video tonight because I was feeling really bad about it. It weird how your mind works. Maybe its my mind thats running slow. Scary, LoL

Don't laugh, but after reading your posts, I've started watching Oreo's videos in slow motion. Yes, I know he's already in slow motion....but I think you can learn so much by doing that.

What a difference from your first front cross to your second! Great job!

Your second front cross was a thing of beauty and look at how well Miley read it! Great job! That exercise looked very fun too!

Wow - Miley can fly!!! She could jump those big oxers that they have in horse jumping - she is just amazing!

Your second front cross was very NICE! I cue Summit way before committment to the jump he's turning on. Although I may still be moving forward, I will begin raising my outside arm which causes my shoulders to rotate into him. This tells him to prepare to collect and turn.

I have always thought Miley commits right away-way earlier then dogs that are tenative or velcroey, she figures out where she is going and commits to it so she seems to need really early, or timely info, that is a cool thing how she just has confidence and charges where she is going. She is a very cool dog.

Very nice that you were able to figure out the perfect time to cue that front cross. Great job! That was an incredibly early take off. I'm surprised she was still in the air by the time she got to the jump. LOL

I have a suggestion to get her more comfortable on the table - do you have 2? We played a game in class with tugs (could work with treats/other toys too) and 2 tables a little distance apart. We'd get playing with the dogs, then get them up on the table. We'd tug for a moment, then run to the other table and tug. Back and forth, so it was all a game. We also used the command "Table" so they learned what it was. It could also be modified so that they play as soon as they sit/down. Might be worth trying.
