Busy so far

Sorry I havent posted much. Its been busy.  A couple came to see Spike this weekend.  He seemed to really like them. He played with them and ran in the yard with them. It seems like a good match.  They took him for a walk in the neighborhood too.  They just needed to get their home visit done.  After that I drove down to my mom's house.  We went over to my grandfather's house, who recently passed away, to clean out his room.  Its a weird feeling throwing someones teeth in the garbage. We went through all the clothes and took them to Good Will.
My grandfather loved steam engines. He built several of him the the last few years.  He didnt buy a kit but machined every single piece of metal himself. They are all very cool.

My mom and I had a good time. There were lots of thunderstorms while I was there. The first night we were sitting talking. My phone made that alert beeping sounds. I picked it up and it said, Take Cover Now, tornado warning in you current area.  Wow, ok.  My old phone never did that. I told my parents. My mom and I went in the down stairs bathroom. I put Guiness and me in the tub.  ( I brought Guiness with me to give him a break from the puppy. He hates the puppy).  I think Guiness was thinking, "Wait, what???  I have to take a bath here?  LOL  So about one minute after I got that text, we heard the sirens going off.   We waited until the sirens stopped to come out of the bathroom. Guiness was very happy about that and did the happy dance/bark/give me a cookie dance.  LOl Especially since he didnt really have to take a bath. My dad said the sirens go off all the time where they live so I think they dont take them as much to heart as I do.
My back was hurting before I went down to my parents. But it got worse at my mom's house. I dont know why. So now its killing me.  I can walk and run but sitting or bending over is torture.  Because of my back I didnt go to Java's class Wednesday night. Sad because I really like going to that class. But I have to drive Stephaine to college  this week. Three  hours down and three hours back in the car. It will kill my back so I figured the less driving the better.
When I got back from my mom's house I still hadnt heard anything from the rescue about Spikes adoption.  I emailed the lady.  Her own dog is really ill and she hasnt had time to do the home visit so she asked me to do it.  The home visit went well. I lent her a book called "Dont shoot the dog".  I also let her borrow the DVD  Crate Games.  She signed up for a puppy class at our club that starts next month.

Yesterday she came to pick up Spike.  He seemed excited to see her. Jumping and wagging his tail. He licked her face. It was sweet. She sent me a note late last night saying that he was doing really well. I hope he didnt cry to much last night.   He hasnt been crying here for the last few nights so I hope it went well.
We went for our last walk yesterday. What a fun boy. Ill miss him. ( my dogs wont. They hated him except for Java but even she was getting over it all)

I havent done much agility training the month of July. Its been really hot, plus dealing with the puppy it just kinda didnt get done. Also Java was in heat and didnt want to run or jump. And dogs can always use a break.  I have been working on Java's weave poles. Im using WAMs  and they are still open wide. Im trying to do a better job at teaching this.  Sending her thru a tunnel and then into the weaves so she does it at speed.  Adding angled approaches.  Ive started working on taking jumps in front of her when running.  And the "wait", well still a work in progress.

Run for my money

Its probably a good thing this puppy didnt go to a home yet.  I found some things out about him. I put him in the car yesterday to take to the vet. OMG, did he scream bloody murder.  I thought I was going to loose my mind. I even put a Kong with peanut butter in the crate with him. I know when I stopped at the stop lights people thought I was killing him. I couldnt even stop at a fast food place to get something to eat at the drive through he was screaming so much. He was fine in the vets office. It was a long wait because they were short a vet. He sat in my lap the whole time. He was so calm I even cut his nails while I was waiting.  But screamed all the way home. So I guess its car rides everyday for a while.  I took him this morning to drop some boxes of stuff at Goodwill and he only screamed until I got out of the subdivision , then he was quiet the rest of the time. So there is hope.  Yesterday I also put a collar on him. He didnt mind that but when I went to hold the collar so Guiness could come in the back door, Guiness hates the puppy, the puppy started screaming like I was choking him. So we have been playing lots of collar games.  He is getting better.   I just think he thinks he can do what ever he wants and when he cant he throws a temper tantrum. LOl  Silly puppy.
A couple of days ago I turned on the sprinkler to water some drys spots on the lawn. The puppy started running through the sprinkler and biting the water. It was very cute.

He is still a great puppy but he needs to go to someone who has energy and wants to play. But he also needs rules.  Some dogs can just be dogs and you can let them be. But some need rules or they think they control the house. He just needs rules.  He is still very cute!!

I did get a note from the people who adopted the girl puppy. They are very happy. They said  the transition has been easier then the had thought it was going to be. That she lets them know when she had to use the bathroom so accidents have been minimal. And that she is sweet and smart. So Im so glad they picked her.

One down, one to go.

Three adopters came to look at all the puppies yesterday. I think there were 5 puppies to choose from.  Two people were there just to look at Spike (pictured above). But he didnt want to be held. Every time someone picked him up, he struggled to get away. So that really put people off.   He really is a cute puppy but busy. He like to run and play.  When he first wakes up and I carry him outside, so he doesnt pee before he makes it outside, he struggles wildly. I put him down and he takes off running and playing. Then stops to pee. LOL.  He is a fun dog but very active.  He needs to go to a home where people want an active dog. Like someone who likes to hike or something.
The female puppy I had did get adopted. They were one of the people here to see Spike. I think the female puppy is a better fit for them. I talked with them and told them about the two puppies.  She just seemed more of what they were looking for.   I did tell them she is a little noise sensitive. Like when a lawn mower starts she heads for the house. You can call her and she would turn around and come back to you. Sometimes I just let her run into the house. She would go in but then come right back out again. So I think that is a good sign. But I told them they need to work on it to make sure it doesnt get worse.   Its funy, all the puppies that were mostly black got adopted. They seemed calmer and wanted to be held and hugged.  The other puppies have a lot of white in them and all of them are very active.

I had to laugh. Twice when I left the house to go do something yesterday, I came back and my husband was holding the puppy. He wants to make sure this puppy gets adopted next time. LOL

At least Spike still has Java to play with.

Last week was a rough week for me. I just didnt feel good. I have been having headaches everyday. Nothing would get rid of them but migraine medication even though they didnt feel as bad as a migraine.  Maybe its sinus stuff. I may have to break down and go to the doctor.  The bad part was I didnt spend much time with any of the dogs or the puppies. It may have been why Spike was so wild on Saturday. There were some days I didnt even walk my dogs. Poor dogs.   So Im still having headache but I dont feel bad anymore. So I did walk the dogs yesterday and today. And I work on Java's running contacts.  Im starting to teach turns. As you do this your straight exits off the running dogwalk can go down hill. Which happened. But it will get better. Ive also started on Java's weave poles. Those were my two goals for the summer. And since I dont have much summer left before going to work, I better get started.
Stephanie got her wisdom teeth out Thursday.  I let her change her appt from July 30th to the 5th because that worked better for her. We didnt realize she was off of work the week of July 4th when we made the original appt. So we changed it at the last minute. If we were thinking we could have gotten a Monday appt, but we didnt call soon enough. Anyway she has done pretty well most of the time. Then she starts feeling bad again.  She has to go back to work today. She is a camp counsler at a sleep away camp. I hope she will be ok.
I was suppose to go to a USDAA trial this weekend but that all fell through with Stephanie's wisdom teeth stuff. I really wanted to test my theory on Miley's contacts again. But it will have to wait until next month.

I took this yesterday morning.

Busy Weekend

The puppies are now doing well. Playing and they seem content.  Thursday night was a different story. I thought to myself, OMG what have I done.  What I didnt tell you in my last post was that I was up at midnight with screaming puppies. Lucky Stephanie was helping me. I was trying to get the food ready and the puppies were having diarrhea.  First one has shooting diarrhea and hits another one all across the face and head. I pick him up and wash him. Right when I put him back in the pen, it happens again with two other puppies. Holy Crap.  It would be hysterically funny if it wasnt happening to me.  Then when  I finish washing that one and put it back in, then another one shoots out poop all across the the first one I wash, hitting him all across his side.  Thank god that was the last time it happened and we got back to making food.

And this thing is my new best friend. LOl  Before I went to Walmart and bought this , I was putting the kibble in a plastic bag and hitting with a meat cleaver. First of all , I didnt know how long it took for kibble to become soft once you add water. Its takes forever, which you dont have time for with screaming puppies.  Kind of like a screaming baby.  No matter how fast you make the formula, it isnt fast enough. They are screaming like they have never eaten a day in their life.   So after pounding  the kibble in a plastic bag, I  had this device that would mix  the food. It was horrible. It wasnt covered and I tried covering it with my hand. Food flying every where. Ridiculous. So the next day I went and bought this chopping, mincing and whatever machine. Its awesome. ( you maybe asking why didnt I use a blender. Uh, we dont have one. Stephanie broke it a couple of years ago and we never replaced it. LOL.) Love this little Ninja.  Works great so far. Chops up the kibble into sand like stuff and then I add water and mix it all up. Quick !  And as long as you remember to put the lid on before mixing, easy clean up.
The lady who has two of the puppies, the runt and anther one is having to bottle feed both hers. I think I would have a breakdown over that. She also took them both back to the vet the next day. The runt needed more fluids. And they decided all the puppies needed antibiotics for the diarrhea. Im  not sure if they tested it or what. But they put the puppies on two different antibiotics.  They are sooooo much better.  No more flying poop.  Yea!!

Im now down to two puppies. Someone else in the rescue took 3 puppies. Life is really easy now.

Male puppy

Female puppy.

These are the two puppies I have left.

On Saturday morning I went to the club building and worked the dogs. Ive been struggling with getting Java to take jumps. And she keeps looking at my hands. So at the club I can throw the treats on the ground ahead of her. That worked great. So I will work on that for a while.  Then I drove down to see my mom.  It was a nice trip. I took Miley and Java with me. The reason was, they were having agility run thurs at the place about an hour from my mom on Sunday. I figured I could stop there on my way home. (Stephanie took care of the puppies for me).

My dogs love my mom's yard and can run their legs off.

Sneak attack.  Its hard to tell but all Java's feet are off the ground.

Im to tired to finish this post, so more tomorrow.

Puppies and playtime

Someone at work sent out an email that said "Free Puppies".  Ugh.  I usually dont look at the mass emails that are sent out. There are several rescue groups at work and its usually asking you to take a dog. I have 5 dogs and just dont think I can handle anymore.  But I opened the email and there was a picture. They looked like sheltie puppies. The lady said she had rescued them from the woods, they were 5 weeks old and she didnt have money for the vet care. When she called a local rescue group they wanted $65 dollars for each puppy she turned in. There are 7 puppies.  She couldnt afford that either.  So I sent an email to the person ahead of Sheltie rescue here and asked if she had any advice for this lady.  Well after lots of talking back and forth, it turns out they are beagel -sheltie mixes. Sheltie rescue would take all the puppies and they lady agreed to turn them over. So now feeling like I been involved in pushing all this through, I felt like I needed to continue to help. I met the lady at the vet yesterday.  There is a runt of the litter who was 1.5 lbs but all the others were 3 lbs.  The runt was also dehydrated.  They all have worms. YuK!!!    So someone else in the rescue took the runt and anther puppy. I took 5 home.  Wow , what a lot of work.  Now Im feeling bad about saying I would do this. Im feeling really old and tired this morning. Every time the puppies cry or squeak but dogs bark like crazy.  Sleep was not good last night.

I washed all the puppies last night because they smelled bad.  The only thing was, I washed off the numbers the vet had written on their legs to tell who was who. Oops.  I hope that was just for yesterdays vet check.
Here is a picture when they were clean. They are now dirty again from getting food all over each other when eating. But here is a picture when they were clean.

Miley is a little freaked out but is getting better.  She was standing outside on the deck last night and didnt want to come in.  She did it again this morning but now she came in on her own. But now the puppies arent screaming  so that maybe why.

I worked Miley  and Java with some friends on Wednesday. Miley was awesome.  I didnt realize it until I got in the car that I didnt have to throw the bait bag once for stress.  We did drop a few bars but I found out if I keep my mouth shut, she keeps the bars up. LOL.

This video is of Miley and Java playing before we started and I was there alone. Its probably boring to you but you know how it is when your own dogs do things. Its cute to me. LOL
