Show and go

We drove up for the show and go this morning. When we got there it was 30 degrees out. Just a bit chilly. The ground was frosty. What I didn't expect was how slick the ground was . Poor Miley slipped at least 3 times on our first run. She slipped all through the weaves. When we got to the a-frame my head just couldn't think and couldn't remember what I called the a-frame. So my poor dog is zigging and zagging trying to figure out where to go. She got right on the table. She again slipped and her front feet fell off but she got back on.

">

Then we tried Snooker. I thought I understood what to do, but after they whistled, I realized I didn't. You didn't have to leave the course if they whistled, you could just keep going. Then find out what happened at the end. I did my 3 red jumps and a color but after the tunnel I took a jump that I wasn't suppose to take because I was to start the closing sequence. Oops. ( I couldn't get the video edited so that guy is on the video. I hope he doesn't mind. Think he will be mad?)

">

I had another standard run. This time I changed the way I ran it. I wanted to make the table harder and some of the tight turns easier so she wasn't slipping all over the place. She took two jumps and was running to the table and was going a little wide from me and missed the table. Then started a big circle around me. I caught her and put her on the table. From there I ran another sequence to bring her around to the table again the same way. She jumped on and off the table. I caught her again and put her on the table. Then we finished the run. Why did she get right on the first run and not this run. Im not sure. It wasnt a straight shot like it was the first time. Maybe that was it.
I only signed up for 3 runs but I felt I couldn't leave on that. So I asked if I could run again at the bottom of the 12's. They said yes. So I ran her again the same way.
">

She still jumped on a off. So I'm not sure I fixed anything.

I think Miley showed a lot of improvement on the table! She did do it twice in the videos. The first time, she just slipped...not really her fault.

Her contacts were awesome.

I think you made a great decision going to the show & go.

Hey - Miley's weave entry in the snookers run was totally awesome! And your handling looked really good in each run - you were out ahead of her a lot doing FCs and the RCs you did she seemed to read well! So good job!

The slippery ground and the cold probably made it hard to truly test Miley's table performance. So that part (weather) was out of your control. I think she did well to slip so much and still keep going in her confident and fast way! Maybe your initial goal for going wasn't met (stay on all tables) but I think you guys did well in other areas and that it was a great experience!

You guys are really looking great. wow, that really looked cold and slippery-and I think that Miley is amazing that after she did that first big slip she just kept going and did not seem at all phased, wow. I think Miley is getting the table idea, and starting to look for it-it shows that you have been working on it-seems like you are on the right track, and when she slows down she gets it, just seems that now just building up so she looks for it the same with speed will come, and I LOVE how you got her the time she missed the table and just quietly focused her and sent her back-I think that really helped her to understand what you were looking for. I am having the same thing going on with Breeze and weave entries-speed and excitement make it hard for these really excited dogs, LOL.

I think you got just what you were hoping for from the show and go. It looked like she was running like she does at a trial. I think it was good that in that environment you were able to catch her and get her back on the table when she started to circle. She did her table really well a couple of times. The one time she did just slip and that certainly wasn't her fault. I bet you accomplished more than you might think you did.

What great runs! I love it when my dogs make the same mistakes at a show-n-go that they do in competition. What's frustrating is when they are perfect everywhere BUT at a trial. Awesome contacts and weave entries! Great handling.

It took me a year to stop hating Snooker. Now I just barely like it...

I don't know, I watched the other video first and I think I see a pattern at this trial that when you run up to the table and stop, she doesn't want to do it and I think you're crowding her line. She did okay on the table send and when you ran past the table. Also when she slipped at the weave poles, when you stopped, she can't get to the poles and she does her loops. I'm also wondering if you stopping suddenly has something to do with it. Maybe slow down and send or run by and she stops but a full stop is confusing her and bringing on her herding instinct, got to do circles to make her move. Dunno...
