The lake and stuff

Today was a beautiful day on the lake. This morning we took the boat out. It was warm outside but not as humid as it usually is. You didnt feel like you were going to die before you got the boat out of the slip. Im sure the dogs were happy too. We got out to the island early and no one was in my favorite cove. Well except for a few big dead fish on the beach. We picked them up. Oh,let me rephrase that, my husband picked them up and chucked them in the woods. So now we could go on the beach. But it didnt take Guiness long to find another stinky dead fish to roll in. Yuk! My pictures arent in order but will just go with it. We werent there to long and another boat pulled up and just parked it. Ugh! People. I never pull into the cove if someone else is already in there. The beach is small maybe 50 feet. They never even said, Do you mind if we share the beach. Guiness kept barking at them so I had to put him on the boat. It just really wreck the morning. There are plenty of other places they could have gone. Rude!!
Miley is saying, "Look someone is in our spot"
"Look, do you see them?"

This is Guiness cheering Miley on swimming, before he had to be put on the boat.

This is Miley swimming. She is wearing a life jacket and then a bungee rope is attached. That way she keeps swimming but never gets closer to shore. It worked really well. We only did that for 1 min and about 4 separate times. Im impressed how well it worked. She never seemed to care that she kept swimming but not making any headway. The bungee was stretch and then pull her back just slightly, I dont think she could feel it.

I did let her swim a few times without the jacket and bungee. But she is only in the water maybe 10 seconds before getting to shore.

When she reaches shore, she turns around and looks back at me.

"I did it, now were's my cookie?" and Guiness and saying "yea, we want cookies".(Click on this picture so you can see guiness's face)
I guess you figured out I was back from visiting my mom. After this morning on the boat, my nice husband drove me up to Charlotte so I could get Miley adjusted by the chiro. I just didnt think I could drive anymore.

Sounds like a fun, relaxing day :) And what a great idea with the bungee cord- lots of good exercise for Miley!

I LOVE the lake pictures!

Since Maizey is my first swimming pup I am a newbie at the dog swimming scene. What is a bungee rope? it seems such a good thing! I use a long line, basically just climbing rope, but the stretchyness of a bungee rope seems better.

Really awesome pictures and swimming is such good rehab exercise, maybe it will help miley feel better!

Great way to get Miley to swim! Maybe we should get Eva a life jacket too :)

We have a spot on a reservior, and I'm always soannoyed when someone else is there. I mean really, its OUR spot. Don't they know that?

Sorry you had rude hijackers on yours today. Hope you didn't have to make annoying small talk with them.

Guiness cracks me up. What a character.

Yes, what were those other people thinking? Terribly rude!

It was a great idea to get Miley to swim in her life jacket with the rope attached - that must've been good exercise! The photo when she gets to the beach and both dogs are looking at you for a cookie is priceless!

Ok, so how did you teach Miley to like water and to swim? My BCs naturally love water but I heard Shelties don't.

Lovely pictures! I'm jealous you have a boat and a lake;-)

Miley really doesnt like water. But she does better than Guiness. Swimming, she just did naturally and i didnt do anything to teach her. Guiness doesnt swim as well,he lets his butt sink and then slaps the water with his front paws. My only advice is start water games early. She probably will be excited just to see how much fun you BC's have. I also use lots of treats when swimming. My next sheltie Im going to introduce water very early and make it lots of fun. Diana

I really envy you have a boat and could take the dogs out to the beach. My shelties would love a life like this. Miley is getting better with her swimming, she must be enjoying it.

Love when Miley looks like she's smiling...do you think she's more comfortable because of all that underwater treadmill she had to do?
