Vet Follow up

Miley had her appt. with the vet. Everything went well. They didnt need to sedate her to get the x-rays. They took hip x-rays and x-rays of her lower back. She examined her before the x-rays and felt Miley was less reactive then Saturday but still did react to the rotating and pulling back of her left leg. She did the x-rays and then wanted to examine her again because of all the pulling of the legs when you do hip x-rays. This time she did a rectal exam so she could feel the muscles that run along side like the Ilisopoas muscle. When she felt to the right, no reaction. When she felt to the left, that muscle was spasming. Poor Miley. All the x-rays were normal. So now we have an appt. on Friday the 13th with a Dr. Gillis. She has a lot of experience doing ultrasounds. She use to live in California but now lives in South Carolina. Her background includes treating race horses. She also would do ultrasounds on dead race horses ( apparently race horses all get necropsied when they die)and then do the necropsy and see if what she found on ultrasound was consistent with what she found on examination and microscopic exam. So thats where we are right. Just waiting. I couldnt get an appt. sooner because there is a big animal rehab conference in Auburn, Al.this week. So everyone involved with rehab is going there.

Waiting is the worst! Sorry you couldn't just get an ultrasound today. I guess it's still good news that the x-rays were normal and that Miley was less reactive today. Don't know about the muscle spasm though. Still seems pretty good news so far, right? Hang in there!

I'm glad the x-rays came back OK, but sorry you have to wait so long for the ultrasound.

Maybe with a couple more weeks of down time, the muscle will heal some more on its own.

so do they think it is the ilioso. muscle then? I did not know muscles and all showed on ultrasound, they are doing so many cool things with ultrasound now. Sounds like they have you going to some really knowledgable people, do they think that all of this relates to any other injuries she has had or are they all totally unrelated?
Maybe it is the blue merle gene....Breeze and Miley are the two blue merles I know best and they both have had their share of making their moms have to worry with injuries ;-)

Well, I'm glad the x-rays didn't show any breaks, but I'm sorry that you'll have to wait till the 13th now for the ultrasound. It does sound like Miley is in very capable hands. I hope the next 10 days pass quickly for you.

Interesting about the rectal exam. Did they give Miley any muscle relaxers? Whisper was on robaxin for a few months. Sending speedy recovery vibes.
