Guiness had his appt yesterday with the internal medicine vet. I told him everything that has been going on. Then he examined Guiness. At least in the office his heart rate was 65. Considering how nervous he was acting ,I figured it be a lot faster. They did the ECG and the ultrasound of the heart. Guess what? All normal. So who knows why he is doing what he is doing. This is just like his leg limp thing. No one ever figured out what was wrong. Well , Im done spending money on this. This has cost me a small fortune. So what is the plan? We are putting him on Theophylline, which is a drug use for asthma. It opens your airways but a side effect is increased heart rate. Im going to start it today. I didnt want to start it last night and then go to bed. Im to keep a log of how he is doing and check his heart rate everyday. Im to call the vet Monday and let him know how Guiness is doing. If this doesnt work, he is willing to try some thyroid medication and see if that helps, although he doenst believe Guiness is hypothyroid.

Well that is down right frustrating. I guess there is some good news in all this, but I'm sure you were hoping for a concrete diagnosis.
Hang in there.
Yes, that is extremely frustrating. But at least the EKG and the ultrasound came back normal - that is good news! It seems like finding out exactly what is wrong is not an easy task even with all the technology today. For dogs and for humans.
Maybe the asthma medicine will help. I sure hope you see some improvement and Guiness can get back to enjoying his walks again!
How frustrating! I hope the medication helps, we'll be hoping for good news...
Hope that helps!! It is so much easier when you can at least find an explaination, but failing that....a "cure" or treatment would be almost as good! I really like your idea of alog and then recording as many variables as you can...
It's good that at least we know Guiness's heart is ok.
I wish they could diagnose the problem, but it must be terribly frustrating for you. Hope the meds help!
A lot of humans in the pharmacy where I work now and also a lot of animals in the vet hospital where I used to tech all are on Theophylline for the same reason, and it was successful for a good portion of them. I hope it works for Guinness.
I agreed this is a frustrating situation but you have done your bit to take him to the internal medicine vet and glad that his heart it normal, that is a good news!
Hope the Theophylline helps him. Big hug to Guiness and to you!
Come on Guiness...you're driving your mom nuts! Hope the new meds do the trick!
